Also known as frijol negro, black beans have a dense meaty texture with flavor that some say resembles a mushroom. Very popular in Latin America, black beans can be served as a stand-alone whole bean, or as a refried bean and can be used in a wide variety of recipes. Like all beans they offer a great source of protein and fiber.
